GLASS HOUSE BY THE POOL, New Delhi

Completed : 2024; 1950 sq.ft.

Client's Brief:

The client’s wanted to have a family lounge and an additional bedroom that effortlessly connects with their existing house. The primary challenge was to enhance the visual connection with the lush greens and swimming pool, which they currently miss in the current setup.

Concept Note:

Our concept revolves around orienting the building in a way that it is optimizing the views of the lush greens and swimming pool while minimizing the impact of harsh sunlight. The entire planning has been done in a way that the entire north façade can have full height glass. The design also emphasizes establishing a relationship between a solid stone feature wall and a proposed glass house, creating a dialogue between solid and transparent.

Design Process:

The spatial organization of the farmhouse is meticulously planned to forge a seamless connection between the old and new houses through a covered corridor. Upon entering the family lounge, you are greeted by a generous 13-feet high ceiling, enhancing the sense of openness and connection with the outdoors. The design intentionally frames the outdoor views, allowing the greens and the swimming pool to become very important elements of the interior experience. As one progresses further inside, they arrive at a bedroom that also maintains the visual link with the natural surroundings because of its openness and a high ceiling.

The colour palette is dominated by shades of grey and white with hints of wood through ceiling and furniture. The choice of fabric for the furniture elevates the sense of opulence and comfort. The magnetic track light infuses warmth into the space an the interplay of diffused and spot lights creates a timeless elegance. Additionally, to merge one side of the building which does not has glass, with the overall landscape, we have incorporated a mosaic art work which has monsteras, lilies etc so that the entire thing blends well.
